Cow Bone from Kenya - East Africa - Large Strands
Known as Batik Beads, these
hand-carved and dyed beads have designs closely resembling the patterns found on traditional East African textiles.
Wax is applied, in the desired pattern, to the white bone and the beads are dipped in a thick black dye made
from boiled tree sap. When washed to remove the wax, the dyed pattern remains. Excellent material for unique and unusual jewellery.
